Therapy for police, NHS and emergency services staff
Whether you wear a uniform or scrubs, your job asks you to face what most people never have to see. The call that went wrong. The patient you couldn't save. The decision you still question at 3am. Years of nights, short staffing and carrying on regardless. Over time it adds up: replaying jobs or shifts, anger at home that doesn't fit the moment, drinking to switch off, dreading going back in, or simply feeling numb, as if the work has taken something you can't get back.
This isn't weakness. It is what repeated exposure to trauma does to anyone.

I already understand your world
I spent more than 20 years as a police officer, retiring as a Chief Superintendent, and before that I qualified and worked as a Registered General Nurse in London hospitals. I later led investigations at the Nursing and Midwifery Council. You will not have to explain the culture, the shift patterns, the jargon or the pressure to just get on with it. I get it.
What I can help with
- Post-traumatic stress after a single incident
- The cumulative weight of years of difficult jobs
- Secondary or vicarious trauma from what you've seen and heard
- Moral injury: being part of, or unable to prevent, something that went against your values
- Burnout, exhaustion and losing the sense of why you do the job
- Anger, sleep problems, and using alcohol or drugs to cope
- The stress of being under investigation or a regulatory process

Private and separate from work
This is a private service, not occupational health. Your employer is not involved and does not need to know you are coming, unless you choose to tell them. I will explain the limits of confidentiality at your first session, as every therapist must.

How we will work together
We begin with an assessment and agree a plan. I follow UK Psychological Trauma Society guidance, starting with stability and practical tools before any work on difficult memories. Depending on what suits you, I may use trauma-focused CBT, the Rewind Technique (which doesn't require you to describe incidents in detail), IFS-informed parts work or hypnotherapy.
Sessions that fit around shifts
I work all day til late on Mondays, until 10pm, at MindTalk, 3 Abbey Street, Market Harborough. Online sessions by Google Meet and telephone sessions are available across the UK. Your first conversation is free.

If you are in immediate danger or crisis, call 999 or contact Samaritans on 116 123. I am not an emergency service.
